Meta Now Allows Secure Chat Transfer Between Devices on WhatsApp Using QR Code
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta (formerly Facebook), recently announced a new feature for WhatsApp, the platform's instant messaging app. This new feature allows users to conveniently and securely transfer their chat history between devices. Previously, the devices had to run on the same operating system (OS) for the transfer to occur, but the new feature simplifies and accelerates the process of transferring messages and larger attachments from one device to another.
In a post on his official Facebook account, Zuckerberg stated, "If you want to move your WhatsApp chats to a new phone, you can now do it more privately without your chats ever leaving your devices." The new method involves using QR code authentication to share the chat history. Zuckerberg also shared a demonstration video to illustrate the new process.
Although WhatsApp already provided options for users to transfer their chat history from one phone to another, the introduction of QR code-based chat transfer enhances the safety of the process. Previously, users could transfer their chat history by using third-party apps or updating backups on cloud services.
With the new process, users no longer need to exit the app on one device to transfer data to another phone. The data remains solely between the two devices, without involving any third-party apps or cloud services, ensuring its security.
The new chat transfer feature using QR codes eliminates the need for users to manually take backups of their data to transfer chat history and media files. To initiate the transfer using QR codes, both devices should be connected to Wi-Fi and have location services enabled.
To transfer chats and media from an old phone to a new device, users can follow these steps:
1. Go to Settings within the WhatsApp application.
2. Navigate to the Chats section.
3. Select the option for Chats Transfer.
4. Scan the QR code displayed on the new device using the old phone.
