How To Transfer Your Music From Google Play Music To Youtube Music

It's almost time to say goodbye to Google Play Music, as it'll soon be replaced by YouTube Music. We don't have a set date yet, but it's likely to happen in the upcoming months.

Google isn't taking any chances when it comes to phasing out Google Play Music. Yesterday, they released a statement on their blog through YouTube (another Google service) that users will get enough time to save and transfer any content from their Google Play Music library before switching to YouTube Music.

All Google Play Music users will get an email soon with instructions on how to upload all their Google Play Music history and content, including podcasts. However, if you wanna switch to another music streaming service, it won't be as easy as just staying within the Google family.

Here's how to move your music library to YouTube Music: follow these steps!

  • Download the YouTube Music application (iOS/Android).
  • Click the transfer button in YouTube Music. Your downloads, purchases, added songs and albums, personal and subscribed playlists, likes and dislikes, managed stations and personal preferences will be moved.
  • Your updated recommendations will then appear immediately on the YouTube Music home screen.
  • You will receive email and notifications when the transfer of your music library is complete and your music is in the “Library” tab.

If you have podcasts on Google Play Music, you can transfer subscriptions and episode progress to Google Podcasts. YouTube Music recently added some cool features, like increasing the playlist limit to 5,000 songs, 100,000 personal tracks, and lyrics, and an Explorer tab to discover new music.

This marks the start of a process that began two years ago when T. Jay Fowler said collections, playlists, and preferences would be migrated when Google Play Music ended. Google is making YouTube a bigger part of the company and betting on subscriptions to YouTube Music Premium and YouTube Premium.
