The Wall Street Journal recently reported that YouTube is conducting internal tests on a new product designed for online gaming. In an email sent to employees at Google, YouTube's parent company, it was announced that they are inviting their own staff members to participate in the testing phase of the upcoming YouTube product called 'Playables'. The report also revealed that the available games for testing include popular titles like Stack Bounce, an arcade game.

According to the report, these games will be accessible for play on YouTube's website through web browsers, as well as on mobile devices that run Google's Android and Apple's iOS operating systems.

A spokesperson for YouTube acknowledged that gaming has been a significant focus for the platform for quite some time. They further mentioned that the company is currently experimenting with new features; however, they clarified that there are no specific announcements to be made at this moment.

In a notable move, CEO Neal Mohan is spearheading YouTube's foray into hosting online games, leveraging the platform's popularity as a hub for game streaming and live gameplay content. This strategic shift comes as a response to a decline in advertising expenditure, prompting YouTube to explore new avenues of growth.

According to The Wall Street Journal report, YouTube is currently conducting internal testing, with a range of games available for employees to evaluate. Of particular mention is Stack Bounce, an arcade game supported by ads, which showcases the testing lineup. In Stack Bounce, players aim to demolish layers of bricks using a bouncing ball, adding an engaging element to the gameplay experience.

By venturing into online gaming, YouTube aims to tap into the lucrative gaming industry and diversify its revenue streams. This move presents an opportunity for the platform to generate additional income while catering to the gaming community's interests and demands.

In addition to the gaming initiative, YouTube has been actively introducing new features to enhance its offerings. Notably, the platform is set to launch its first official shopping channel for live commerce in South Korea on June 30, as reported by Yonhap news agency. This strategic move demonstrates YouTube's commitment to expanding its services and embracing innovative opportunities in various markets.
